Sugar Coated Pecans

Sugar Coated Pecans (a.k.a. sugared crack)

Sugar Coated Pecans (a.k.a. sugared crack)

This past Christmas, I went baking crazy and gave away many treat tins as presents. Some recipes worked well, some bombed. I’ll be posting about each of them.

This recipe was probably the tastiest and most addictive, if not the most expensive, of them all. A friend of mine had made them for a party last year, and I requested the recipe. Pecans are not cheap, but boy do they taste good!

Sugar Coated Pecans

Recipe modified from Allrecipes

1 egg white
1 tablespoon water
1 pound pecan halves
3/4 cup white sugar (original recipe calls for 1 cup)
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees F (120 degrees C). Grease one baking sheet.
  2. In a mixing bowl, stir together sugar, salt, and cinnamon. In a separate bowl, whip together the egg white and water until frothy.
  3. Add pecans to egg whites, stir to coat the nuts evenly. Remove the nuts, and toss them in the sugar mixture until coated. Spread the nuts out on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Bake at 250 degrees F (120 degrees C) for 1 hour. Stir 2-3 times during the baking process.
