Marshmallow hot chocolate mix

Another gift I gave to others over Christmas were jars of hot chocolate mix (mostly to give myself a break from making cookie after cookie). They’re actually quite simple to make, and everyone seemed impressed. And bonus, if you use gluten-free ingredients the mix is Celiac-friendly! Every recipe I looked at called for non-dairy creamer, which I was NOT willing to do. I finally found a recipe on another site, but felt that it needed some adjustments.

Non-food ingredients
Clean jars
Ribbon
Cloth (I found some Christmas remnants at the fabric store.)
Labels (Printed off some on the computer using a Christmas letter template, and glued them to the jars.)

Ingredients
(These ingredients make enough to fill at least 2 large jars, size similar to spaghetti sauce jars.)
3 cups powdered milk
3/4 cups powdered sugar (or use an easily dissolvable type like berry/castor sugar)
1/2 cup cocoa
dash of salt
mini-marshmallows

Directions
Combine all ingredients in a bowl until everything is well mixed. I tossed a handful of mini-marshmallows in the bowl as well, so that when the hot chocolate is scooped out you get a marshmallow-y surprise.

Spoon the mix into your jars, leaving a small gap at the top. Fill the gap with mini-marshmallows. Alternatively, you could fill the jars to the top and provide the marshmallows in a little bag tied with a ribbon.

For the cloth covering, I simply cut off a square of cloth and tied it to the top of the jar using some wrapping ribbon, then trimmed the cloth as needed.

For the label, here is the text I used:

Directions:
Add 4 – 5 tablespoons to 1 cup of hot water or milk. Stir, and add additional marshmallows or whipped cream as desired.
